As a daily visitor to Chris’s work at DbD, I was shocked to see this morning that there was a family emergency. You are indeed in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you and give you healing and peace. Lord hear our prayer.
God bless all of you for your support and prayers. Cathy has been my boss/friend/sounding board for right at 22 years now. I have talked to many of our former students in the last couple of days and it has warmed my heart to hear your compassion for this wonderful person. I join you in prayer for her and her family during this difficult time.
Cathy joined our Lord about 1:00pm today (Friday, October 12, 2007). She is finally at rest and no longer in pain.
Her strength, her intellect, her humor and her beauty will continue to tough us all for years and years to come. She will be missed, but she will be remembered.
I weep for our loss, but I am so happy for having known Cathy. She made such a big difference in so many lives, mine certainly included. Her strength and that unfailing sense of humor made her so special. Everyone who knew her loved her; one couldn’t help it. “The true measure of one’s life is it’s service,” a wise man once said. I’d say we all have some work to do to measure up to Cathy Forsythe. Let the work begin! God Bless her, and all of you.
The weather this week has been gorgeous. A friend and I were thinking it should be dark and rainy being that Cathy had fallen so ill. Then we thought, “no, it’s beautiful, refreshing and sunny” just like Cathy. When I heard the news of her passing, I went outside and felt that wonderful fall breeze and just smiled through my tears thinking of her.
Cathy you will be missed more then you could have ever imagined. You family will be in our prayers.
I just wanna say you are my hero. One day you said “All work that is worth anything is done in fath…”, but you didn’t talk the talk…you walked it. You will always be in my heart, ad thus always with me. I will always be here for Cara and Chris.
I will NEVER again meet a person as incredible as Cathy. I have no doubt that Cathy was an angel put on this earth to help us all move through life a little bit easier. The glow from her face will live on in my heart forever…
Cancer is so limited… It cannot cripple love. It cannot shatter hope. It cannot corrode faith. It cannot eat away peace. It cannot destroy confidence. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot shut out memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot reduce eternal life. It cannot quench the Spirit.
Cathy was a special soul to this world….a soul that anyone who had the privlidge to know her understood…..they knew they were lucky to know her. As a student she took me under her wing, gave me confidence and guided me to the career I enjoy today. As a friend she was always there……always lending a hand when you needed one….an ear when your problems were more than you could handle yourself. The K.A.C.C. studios were always full of the laughter and sunshine coming from that corner office. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family…..and may she always be in our hearts and thoughts…..my heart is sad to know she is gone….but happy to know she is in a better place….it is now her time to spread the joy and laughter up in heaven.
I am stunned to think this vibrant, amazing woman has moved beyond all of us….I want her family to know how loved she always has been by me– she inspired and befriended me many moons ago when I worked with her at ACC. She’s touched countless lives with her energy, her brilliance— she always had a “glow” about her that attracted people and friends. My prayers are with all of you!!!
I had the honor of living next door to Cathy, Chris and Cara for the last nine years. Cathy was (and will always be) my inspiration. No matter how tough my life was I could look at her and draw strength. Her attitude, her smile, her overall outlook on life. Cathy lived her life with such grace and dignity. I will miss you my neighbor, my friend, my angel.
I never knew Cathy or had the honor of listneing to her on the air, but I read of her passing while surfing radio-info.com while getting ready for bed.
I did shed a tear. In the world of broadcasting, when one of the “family” dies, it’s awlays sad, because we are such a clsoe knit group of folks in radio, that I betcha I knew someone who knew her.
My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Cathy’s family, friends, co-workers and students at this most trying time. I can only imagine how tough it is for some of you who were so close to her………….
I was very saddened to hear about Cathy’s passing. She was an inspiration to many. I was a student at ACC and a member of the KACC staff back in 1988-90. My career started because of Cathy’s guidance. I am currently a PD in Lexington, KY but before coming to KY, I was a PD in Jackson, MS… I was fortunate to have seen her again along with her father on one of her trips to Mississippi to go through her treatment less than a year ago. It was good to see her and reminisce about the days of when i was there as a student and the current studios and students. I will now always cherish that lunch we had in Jackson. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and co-workers.
Let us remember her in joy and rejoice in her reunion with Carole. I am sure they are having the best time right now. We will always miss her. We pray for peace of heart and soul for all her family and friends in whom she will live on forever!!
for those who do not know, Carole was Cathy’s mother - she passed away September 2004 due to complications with Pancreatitis.
I was deeply saddened today when I did as I regularly have done in the past and went to Friends of Cathy to check on the lady that has touched so many lives. My thoughts and prayers are extended to Cathy’s family and her radio family all of the students who walked through the doors off KACC. I am proud to be a part of that KACC family and always will remember Cathy for evrything she did for me, everything she taught me, and all of the advice she so freely gave. I am so thankful that I saw Cathy at the auction a while back and was able to visit with her and many of the KACC family. I will always treasure the photograph that was taken of her and I together. As I read the news about Cathy’s passing it reminded me of all the special memories of Cathy and KACC that I will always hold in my heart. To Cathy - I say Thank You and RIP
From riding tricycles to talking about treatments for her cancer, I have had the honor of having a sister who was also my best friend. The loss of her, so soon after Mom, is unbearable.
And yet, seeing her children, Chris and Cara, step up and be there when things mattered most makes much of the pain go away, because they so clearly reflect her strength and goodness, a continuation of the Cath (I always call her Cath) I always knew. Not children, but a young man and a woman who carry on all that was best in my sister.
And, perhaps, that is the immortality of my sister, who scorned death, and embraced Life.
As I read the email that David sent out—1,000’s of tears and memories flooded my mind as well as disbelief of what I had just read. Cathy, a wonderful, positive, strong, inspiration to everyone who had the honor of meeting her was gone…… As a former student at ACC and a member of the KACC family (1981-1983), Cathy took me, a young and naive girl under her wing; taught me the meaning of ‘being there’. Her doors were ALWAYS open (at our original KACC studios and our 2nd studios). She always made time for everyone. She taught me how to speak up, be confident, strong and aggressive. Many times through the years I give ’silent thanks’ to Cathy for who she was to me and the woman she taught and inspired me to be. Her inspiration and encouragement to her students can never be replaced; but if we can pass a little bit of “Cathy” on to others the world will be a better place, no doubt. Always positive, definitive, energetic, wise, funny was just a small part of the woman she was at 25 years old who continued to show strength even up to October 12th. I can never repay you Cathy for everything you taught me. I have always been grateful and will always remember you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Penny A big Thank You to Mike Sears (ACC & KACC Alumni) for introducing me to Cathy Forsythe.
Don’t think of her as gone away– her journey’s just begun; life holds so many facets– this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth of comfort where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know, today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched… for nothing loved is ever lost– and she was loved so much.
I didn’t know Cathy at all, nor any of the rest of the family, but I was touched by her courageous fight with cancer. I have been following Day by Day almost since the beginning, and I was also touched by Chris’ devotion to his sister.
My condolences to the entire family. I pray that God gives you all strength to get through this difficult time.
Cathy was such a special person. We learn the most about people, not in the good times but how they face the bad times. Cathy taught us all how to do our jobs but she saved the greatest lesson for us, in how we should live our lives. Her bravery and passion for living every day to it’s fullest is what I will take with me forever.
Cathy was a great lady. She is a pioneer in Texas radio. I will never forget what she once told me “Emma you better have tough skin becasue radio is a tough business for women”. I worked in Houston radio for 15 years thanks to Cathy. What a wonderful woman!!! She will be missed. My prayers go out to her family.
It was simply an honor to have the opportunity to be able to have a friend and co-worker like Cathy. I met her a little over a year ago via a clinic in Jackson, MS. She was one of the most positive and strongest individuals that I have ever met in my life. She was such a class act and had a great purpose in life. My thoughts and prayers will remain with her family and friends. I will never forget the impact that she made on me and I will strive to honor her as I continue to work as a patient coordinator.
I had the pleasure of working with Cathy on several community projects…she was always smiling, always willing and always wanting to do more if it meant benefiting others…
I got to give back to her once…what a joy for me that was! I will miss knowing she’s isn’t a click away. She is already missed…always will be.
I have been trying to find the words to express how I feel about Cathy but the words aren’t coming easily for me. I just want everyone to know what a wonderful person Cathy was (that is very evident by all the wonderful comments left on this board) and that I feel very honored that she considered me to be one of her friends. We’ve had a group of friends that I jokingly called “Cathy’s crew” but the truth is, she was the heart of our group of friends. A few years ago, she gave us all a heart pendant - she gave us each a different color and we wear them lovingly as a tribute to Cathy. She made each of us feel like we were her best friend and we all felt like she was our best friend. She was the best mom I’ve ever known. We love you Cathy and we will always miss you.
Michael W. Smith wrote a song “This is your time” which says, “This is your time, this is your dance, live every moment, leave nothing to chance…..swim in the sea, explore the mystery of all you can be….” Outstanding. One of Cathy’s favorite words. “Celebrate life.” - a gift to me from Cathy that hangs by my front door. “Take the higher road.” “Use your time in a positive way.” “Manage your health, don’t let it manage you.” A teacher, mentor, friend, an amazing lady and Mom. Some people come into our lives and quickly go, others leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same. We will always remember Cathy and will stand by Chris and Cara and her loved ones as “chosen family” because “it takes a village to raise a child” and Cathy showed us that education never ends. What a privilege to be part of Cathy’s crew. Now, sunshine girl, “God will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand.” The world is a better place because of you.
As a 13 year old kid wondering around Alvin Community College during a karate meet, I stumbled into KACC where the on air DJ asked me if I wanted to do it… be a DJ of course and that event was the gateway to meeting Cathy. Back then KACC was in a trailer behind the gym of ACC with a small antenna which stood somewhat short of 100′ tall.
As KACC’s newest pain in the ass, Cathy sat me down and called me out on a regular basis for being such and I deserved it. It was how she did it which taught me something about life. Those things are being responsible, being respectful and of course don’t screw with Cathy’s radio station. That 13 year old kid in 1983 had encountered a force that could shake up most kids that age and make them never want to turn on a radio, step back onto the campus or think about KACC again but she did it in a way that was taught me and made me respect who she was.
A few years later I got to work with Cathy when she was a volunteer medic with Alvin EMS and later on after the military I went back to Alvin for the fun of it and actually joined up again with KACC shortly before the jump to 89.7 and shortly thereafter got to become Mark Moss’s pain in the ass. I remember Cathy saying something to Mark about such pain as being a right of passage and it was his turn.
Over the years I have yet to meet someone like her. It is hard to talk about someone using the word awesome but when I think about Cathy today it turns out that word is pretty easy to use when talking about her. Cathy Is Awseome. I use ‘is’ because she is still inside all of us today. Even though she has passed from this world, she is still with all of us. For those who worked with Cathy and new her, every boss thereafter Cathy was a pain in the ass. Funny how things in life come full circle huh?
I am going to sign off with this thought; I wish there were more Cathys’ in the world today..
Just this afternoon I found about Cathy’s passing and just can’t believe it. I’ve known Cathy and interacted with her on many occasions over the years whether it be with mutual friends, PTA, kids, etc. I so clearly remember one particular day a couple of years ago that I went to drop off food for her & Cara (Chris was already at UT) as Cathy was in the midst of a round of chemo & her “crew” had folks organized & scheduled to deliver dinner for them on those days - you went to the house, got the “hidden” key & let yourself in to put the food in the fridge. This morning the back door was open and I found Cathy sitting outside on the patio with the dog and a washcloth to her forehead. She hadn’t heard me come in but I peeked out to say hi - she looked so sick but once she saw me she immediately smiled that smile! What an inspirational woman she was and will forever be - I would read her blog and be in awe of her wonderful outlook on life despite the personal battle that she was going through every day. She’s definitely left her mark on our world and she leaves her living legacy in Chris and Cara. I know that the two of you are suffering with the loss of your mother and there just aren’t any words of condolence that can make that pain any less. You will be forever in everyone’s thoughts and prayers.
In one sense Cathy Forsythe was to me the modern personification of Joan of Arc. A warrior whose single minded will and faith never wavered that God will help those who truly believe to overcome any enemy and any obstacle. In the end, for the principles for which she stood, she won victory after all. Cathy’s inspiration to the countless people in broadcasting whom she mentored; counseled; taught, befriended, and led by example, leaves the same kind of legacy of awe in the power of her own Faith; her own code of Ethics, and in her own terrific honesty, which permanently impacted anyone who was fortunate enough to have had the honor of even brief professional association. As one of the thousands who have been inspired to live up to the best in broadcast ethics by following her professional leadership, Cathy Forsythe for the writer of this post will forever be the best example of what Hemingway called “Grace Under Pressure.”. And God has reclaimed an angel indeed in his Eternal Grace. I pray that her close family of her precious children; and Mark and Bill at KACC will find comfort in the Peace that surpasseth all understanding in the Lord’s Grace, indeed. Amen.
Cathy was a neighbor of mine and we also attended the same church. Cathy was a woman of such strong faith! Sometimes people will turn away from from God when times get tough;not Cathy. Cathy was a regular attendee at our church’s healing services. With tears in our eyes, our small group, along with our pastor, would pray for Cathy’s healing. I always take comfort from this passage in Revelation 21:4:”And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” At last Cathy has been made whole.
As a daily visitor to Chris’s work at DbD, I was shocked to see this morning that there was a family emergency. You are indeed in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you and give you healing and peace. Lord hear our prayer.

ReplyDeleteIn one sense Cathy Forsythe was to me the modern personification of Joan of Arc. Amen.
ReplyDeleteCathy was a neighbor of mine and we also attended the same church.
